AI adoption in Australia’s top ASX 200 companies

The message is clear: Australia’s largest corporations are not moving fast enough. While global peers embed AI into core operations, the majority of ASX 200 companies remain stuck in pilot mode, or sitting on their hands observing from the sidelines.

Australia’s biggest companies are falling behind on AI. Our new report reveals:

  • Only 45% of ASX 50 companies disclosed substantive AI use in 2025
  • Across the remainder of the ASX 200, that figure drops to just 30%
  • Overall adoption sits at only 27% of ASX 200 firms in 2025 (54 companies), or 35% when you average across 2023–25.

Now compare this to the rest of the world:

~95% of Fortune 500 companies report AI adoption

40-50% of FTSE 100 and Nikkei 225 firms are already onboard

The message is clear: Australia’s largest corporations are not moving fast enough. While global peers embed AI into core operations, the majority of ASX 200 companies remain stuck in pilot mode, or sitting on their hands observing from the sidelines.

This isn’t a technology adoption story. It’s a competitiveness story. And the gap is widening.
